The different properties of the elements of gold, iron, oxygen, hydrogen etc.. they have proved, consists in the differ ent numbers of electrons each element is made up of. According to this theory one element could be converted into another. Lead could be converted into gold or into any other element. This theory establishes the truth of Jaina Metaphysics beyond any doubt. Therefore one can say a table is pudgala, gold is pudgala, iron is pudgala, but pudgala is not only gold. iron and table, because pudgala is a common substance perceivable by all or any one of the senses) that is found in table. iron and gold. Sound cannot be produced without air or gas i, e... pudgala. Sound cannot exist without pudgala in some form or other, So much so, it is a character or property of pudgala and of pudgala alone and of nothing else in the universe. The property of a substance cannot exist independently of the substance of which it is the property: a substance could be known or recognised by its properties alone. Therefore, we say sound is pudgala but pudgala is not always sound, because sound is only one of the properties of pudgala.

3. DHARMA
Dharma according to Jainism is a medium of motion. We know sound cannot travel without the medium of air. Fish cannot float without the medium of liquid. Birds cannot fly without the
medium of air. It is found magnetic waves travel long distances, even in areas where there is no air, it travels through water, mountains, metal screens and even up to stars and sun. Air is not a medium for those magnetic waves. The scientists could not explain what that medium was, but they were definite that there must be a medium. It is this medium which the scientists have called it as ether (ether-something that cannot be known). They know that without this ether medium magnetic waves cannot travel. It is by these waves we hear the radio. This ether satisfies all the attributes of Dharma as explained by Jain Metaphysicists.
14) ADHARMA
Adharma is another medium which has exactly the opposite character of Dharma. While Dharma is a necessary medium for motion. Adharma is a medium necessary for things to remain at rest or static. It is not character of anything in this universe to remain either in static or in motion If there should be a medium for motion we could easily conceive that there may be a medium for rest. It is found that the magnetic waves though unaffected by air, mountains water etc., do lose their intensity and finally they fail. Why? Ether does not give any resistance, because there is no substance, no strength either. The only conclusion we can come to is, that Adharma and Dharma are like light and darkness. Wherever there is light there is darkness.
