1 Scott. History of the Deccan. Bengal. “The Nawab displeased his officers and they, with Jagatseth being in fear of their lives, resolved in order to save themselves to effect his destruction Vol. VI. P. 366.
'“ With this view (i, e. that of deposing Suraj-ud-dowlah with the aid of the English) Jagatseth employed Ameenchand (the same as Omi Chand, Oma Chand or Amee Chand) a principal merchant of Calcutta, Doorlub Ram, some other person, and Jaffir Khan, Ameer Beg, who had some connection with the English to whom he had been of service when their factory was taken. These persons represented the outrageous conduct of the Nawab to their principals, and the general desire of the province for his removal. They even produced a written request to the English that they would march for this purpose, and by a little trouble deliver a world from tyranny and oppression for which they should receive three crores of Rupees, and other favors. The particulars of the Nawab's cruelties to Gooseity Begum and others were also displayed, and the paper was attested under the seals of these persons who suffered injuries.” Ibid.
