Jain(a)- -A follower of Jina. Jina- a-A generic term applied to those parsons ( men
and women ) who conquer their lower nature (passion, hatred and the like) and bring into prominence the
highest. Jiva-aia-sentient, animate or conscious beings. Kala- es-time; it is figuratively ( for the matter of con.
venience ) called a drarya; it is only from the vy. arahara (practical) point of view, by upachara ( attribution ) called a drarya ( substance ). It is that paryaya ( common to all dravyas ) which enables us to know the oldness or newness, or anteriority or posteriority, co-existences and sequences of things or beings. It is not made up of pradeshas. Time is the duration of the states of substances. ( Duration is the fact that a given state stays for
a certain length of time.) : Kshetra- -the space or room a thing occupies. Karma-2-an energy which an embodied being generates
be it vital, mental or moral—and which keeps him in the mundane world—sansara. It is, in short, the whole sansaric make-up of an emobodied being.
( It is entirely divested of the (vedic) sacrifice idea.) Lakshana- gun-special characteristic ( of the thing to be
defined. ) Moksha- -liberation, the ultimate state of a perfected in
dividual, Maya-Art-illusion. Mukta-7-liberated beings. Moksha- 18-attainment of perfect spiritual individuality
which does not disappear, is not dissolved, is not merged into a supreme being, is not a state of unconsciousness, but persists for ever and consists of
perfected consciousness aud highest rectitude. Nimitta-affa—the instrumental cause. Both the upadana
( substantial ) and the nimitta causes are equally necessary in causation.
