remarked to Yashovijayaji's mother that she must have had to observe a fast the previous day. The mother replied in the negative and related how well her son performed the Guru's task Hearing this the Guru was spell-bound and thought it would be a great thing for the Jain religion to secure such a man as one of the congregation of Sadhus. The Guru gently asked of her to dedicate her son, so that she would earn merit of great order. The mother consented and Yashovijaya was initiated into the fold of Sudhus by Nayavijayaji. Thus Yashovijaya traces bis lineage to the illustrious Hiravijaya Suri.
Yashovijayaji then studied from his Guru all the Jain scriptures, and got mastery over Jain philosophy. Subsequently he determined to study all other schools of philosophy, and to go to Benares, the city well known from ancient times for having
