________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir says that the place was a prosperous city in the 9th century. A.D. the other inscription is believed to be spurious. The third reference to Ghumli is contained in the 12 copperplate grants unearthed from the Ghumli village itself. These plates cover about the whole of the 9th century of the Christian era. The earliest date given is Gupta Samvat 513(832 A.D.) and the latest is G.S. 596 (915 A.D.) We get the following genealogy from the plates of the new Jethwa Dynasty called the Jayadrath or the saindhava: Pushyadeva, Agguka, Ranaka, Jaika, Chamunda, the grants bestowed upon the lucky donees are the villages mostly situated in or about the present Nawanagar state territories. The rulers of Bhutambilika call them selves Gems of Western Seas. Thus they fil in the gap between their contampararies the Chudasamas and the Chavdas- say these plates bring to light a new dynasty in Saurashtra and add an important chapter in the History of Kathiawad. The later Jethwas (and by the way, Altekar derives this word from Jayadratha and thus takes its antiquity back to the Mahabharata period) have had a great hold on the popular imagination in the form of Bardic Accounts. Halaman Jethwo and Son Kansari as also Meh Jethvo and Ujali have acquired a mystic glory of legendary romances and about whom Duhas (verses) are so rapturously-sung by the young and the old alike. Besides Ghumli the tract of land surrounding the Barda Hills abounds in rich archaelogical relics, namely, Gops and its oldest temple in Kathiawad (about 5th century A.D.) Pachhtar with the Sun Temple, Ranpur's Buddhistic caves with a ChaityaStupa turned into a Mahadev, Kileshvar, Harshad temple on the Koyalio hill, Bileshvar, visavada temples, and Miani with its shivite and Jain shrines, the last three being in the Porbandar State limits.
