Jinendra-Buddhi, author of Visalámalatika on 13 the Pramāna Sapuuccayavrtti of Dinnāga that Dinnāga, is here referring to the views of Bhartrhari. This evidently supports the former alternative that Dinnaga is quoting from Bharthari.
Now if Dinnäga, a famous Buddhist logician of the 5th century A. D. quotes from the Vakyapadiya, how can we assign Bharthari to the 7th century A. D.? We have only to conclude that Bharthari, the author of the Vakyapadiya lived in the 5th century A. D. and that the statement of Itsing that Bhartrhari died some forty years before the date of his record is incorrect.

જે “વાક્યપ્રદીય” ગ્રંથ કેટલાક સંસ્કૃત ગ્રન્યકર્તાઓનો સમય નક્કી કરવા માટે આધારભૂત ગણાતો હોવાથી ભારતીય સાહિત્યના ઇતિહાસમાં “સીમાચિહ” તરીકે ગણાય છે, તે ગ્રંથને કત્ત મહાન વ્યાકરણાચાર્ય ભર્તુહરિને સમય ઈસિંગના “ Record of Buddhist religion” ના વિધાનો ઉપરથી નક્કી કરવામાં આવે છે. ચીની પ્રવાસીએ જણાવ્યું છે કે ભતૃહરિ એક મહાન વ્યાકરણાચાર્ય હતા કે જેની ભારતમાં સર્વત્ર કીર્તિ પ્રસરી રહી હતી અને વાયપ્રદીય મહાભાષ્ય ઉપરથી ટીકા અને પેઈના (કે જે કદાચ વાક્યપ્રદીય ગ્રંથનું ત્રીજું અને છેલ્લું પ્રકરણ અથવા પ્રકીર્ણ કડ હેઈ શકે) આ ત્રણે ગ્રંથના કર્તા હતા, અને તેઓ આશરે ઇ. સ. ૬૫૦માં સ્વર્ગવાસી થયા. જે એકસાઇથી ઇસિંગે સમકાલીન બનાવો તેમજ “વાક્યપ્રદીય "ના સમયની નેધ લીધી છે તે ઉપરથી વિદ્વાનોએ ભતૃહરિને સમય ઈ. સ. સાતમા સૈકાને નક્કી કરેલ છે.

૧. સરખાવો. “ A record of the Buddhist Religion” કર્તા ઈસિંગ-અંગ્રેજી અનુવાદ કરનાર જે. ટાકાકુથ. પ્રસ્તાવના પાનું ૧૫. ઈસિંગે આપેલી બધી તવારીખમાં સૌથી અગત્યની ભતૃહરિ, જયદિત્ય અને તેના સમકાલીનની છે. આ બધી તવારીખો જે સમયને હું સંસ્કૃત સાહિત્યના પુનરુત્થાનને કાળ ગણું છે તે નક્કી કરવામાં બહુ અગત્યની છે.
