Abalimi- the People Who Plant Based at two people's nurseries in Kyalitsha and Nyanga, Abalimi supports the emergence of a new environmental and urban agriculture movement in the grassroots community. The people's nurseries are the only nurseries in the Cape Flats. Projects and programs of WPI include: start up inputs (manure, seeds, etc.) supplied to 1,000-5,000 survival food gardeners annually: training in ecological gardening given to 300-5000 micro-farmers annually: 1-7 year developmental partnerships with emerging community gardening associations resulting in sustainable food garden organizations; and 1-7 year developmental partnerships with grassroots environmental organizations such as schools, parks, youth clubs, and green street groups.

Alleviating Hunger, Poverty and Environmental Degradation
Heifer Project International's grassroots approach has provided food and income producing animals and training to millions of resource poor families in 115 countries. Giving microcredit in the form of livestock promotes self-reliance, which builds self-esteem and helps families lift themselves out of poverty. At the heart of HPI's philosophy is the commitment families make to "pass on the gift" by sharing one or more of their animal's offspring with other families in need. Helping others ensures dignity and multiplies the benefits of the original gift from generation to generation.

WORLD
Grass Roots Peace Building World Fellowship of Inter-Religious Councils (WFRIC) has taken the message of peace to the grass roots level with the help of regional units. They have also formed peace councils in different parts of Kerala, and outside the state, to check violence, promote harmony, and build bridges of understanding and cooperation. In addition, the WFIRC fosters social justice, peace, and harmony among followers of different traditions by conducting values education classes in colleges and high schools.
