COUNCIL FOR WORLD PARLIAMENT OF RELIGIONS
The Council for World Parliament of Religion was formed in spring 1988 for planning the centennial celebrations in 1993. The centennial celebrations are likely to cost about US$ 2.3 million.
Rockfeller Foundation, Templeton Trust and private individuals are currently financing the expenses. The premises for the office has been given to the Council free of rent by Continental Bank. All the faiths are expected to contribute towards the expenses. Hindu host committee is expected to contribute US$ 150.000. Jains are also expected to contribute. Each faith is expected to form a host committee for representation of faith/religious tradition to the parliament, fundraising for the parliament event and faith/religious representation, publicity, volunteers and Window of Faith' bus tour. The main events of the celebrations will be held at PALMER HOUSE HILTON HOTEL, 17 EAST MONROE STREET, CHICAGO, ILLONOIS 60603. Other off-site events may be held at Grand Park, Arvey Fields, First Presbetrian Church, St.James Episcopal Cathedral, Chigao Theatre. North Shore Congregation Israel. All the faiths are expected to comment and make suggestions on a draft declaration'STATEMENT ON GLOBAL ETHICS' now under preparation by Dr.Hans Kung. Final decalartion will be signed by spiritual leaders before the end of the celebrations.
