Jai Jinendra,
Young Jains of America is truly thankful for the support we continue to receive to thrive as a youth organization in this day and age. This term we have made progress at the local, regional, and national level. Since our inception in 1991, we have strived to incorporate Jain ideals through various mediums of communication.
Earlier this year, YJA was able to launch a revamped website. This new website provides a whole new feel and exciting new start to preview the great things to come. Over the next few months, we will continue to add new features and to make our website accessible and informational for our online visitors.
Our regional conferences provided youth with another avenue to unite and learn more about our faith. Successful conferences were held in Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Pittsburgh, PA; and Washington DC.
The YJA Executive Board met this January 22-25, 2004 in Milpitas, California where we set goals for the upcoming months. One of the major areas that we will be working to expand will be holding events at the local level in order to get more youth involved. YJA will work once again Habitat for Humanity to promote community service amongst Jain youth this summer in more cities across North America.
We are proud to unveil our 6th biennial convention in Santa Clara, California from July 1 to 4th. This auspicious event will bring together nearly 1000 Jain youth from all across North America and the rest of the world. The theme for the convention this year is Y Jain? To See, To Know, To Realize. Registration for this convention began in January and we have seen staggering turnout and response. The convention may be back in the Bay Area but YJA will revolutionize the convention experience for those who will attend. Our programming this year is organized around "tracks" that will unify sessions under common themes. New experts, religious teachers, and guests will be invited to speak at YJA Convention 2004. Youth will be able to learn the joy of stavans, realize the power of Ahimsa, understand the importance of many Jain rituals and prayers, and most importantly, recognize how Jainism can help guide them in their daily lives. Young people will also get to know other youth from around the North America. To learn more about this year's convention visit www.yja.org. If you haven't registered yet, we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible!
Many thanks,
Arpan Shah and Chirag Shah Co-Chairs, 2003-2004 Young Jains of America.
