FROM THE EDITOR IN CHIEF
Jai Jinendra!
The cover of this issue recognizes the ardent efforts made by the Jain Center of Northern California and Jain Society of Detroit for further establishing Jainism in North America.
JAIN DIGEST also congratulates the JAINA Executive Committee for the grand success of JAINA Patrons project under the leadership of Dr. Dhirajbhai Shah.
The YJA is planning the next Youth Convention in the summer of 1998. Details are included in this issue.
We are pleased to add a new feature "For Our Health" beginning this issue. We welcome questions from readers and will publish them in due course. Please send them to the JAINA Headquarters.
On behalf of the Editorial Board and Regional Editors, I want to wish everyone a Healthy, Happy and Peaceful New Year.

I am writing to you as regards the matrimonial match service JAINA and yourself offer. I would like to point out to you that in the preference criteria your inclusion of "Color of Skin" is extremely prejudicial. I am not at all clear why Jains as a whole would subscribe to matching preferences for skin tone. I am equally surprised that a non-profit organization in the USA would allow such criteria to be published. I would strongly suggest that you publish an apology to all Jains for even suggesting skin tone be a criteria and further make available your resources to eliminate such criteria from being practiced.
Response-Ability
It is heartening to read President Dr. Dhiraj Shah's message in Fall 1997 issue of JAIN DIGEST. He has a pragmatic approach for the goals he initiated and to be achieved.

In fact, he has already started his mission in right earnest. He takes leadership in a humble way and keeping in mind "practice before preach", he donated $5001 to start with, for JAINA Patron Program. He has ability to create thousands of responses. Although he is a physician by profession, his total devotion towards JAINA is laudable. JAINA is destined to achieve new heights under his leadership. Two years tenure is too short to fulfill all tasks undertaken, but whatever avenues explored and the aims achieved for the worthy cause will become guidelines for successive leaders.
Jain Digest: New get-up
I was excited when I saw JAIN DIGEST Fall 1997 issue. It has now a new get-up. Congratulations to Editor-in-Chief and Publishing Editor for such new presentations and excellent work.
