IN KHAJURAHO FESTIVAL

The thousand year celebrations at Kkajuraho have begun on 6th March 99. The millennium festival which will go on till 25th March 2000 is an appreciation of this art form of India. But the Jaina art and its asthetic values to appreciate such a glorious culture have not been included due to inactive interest of our central/state Jaina leadership and socio cultural unawareness.
The world heritage of Khajuraho has made a significant contribution to Jaina religious art of our country. Some magnificiant Jaina temples here are dedicated to Jaina faith. The Ādinātha temple is one of them. These Jaina temples have become world famous for their erotic sculpture. The exuberant details in these. Jaina temples which speak of the vitality and prosperity of the times. Out of 85 temples only 21 are standing. Many of the houses in nearby villages are partly built with stones which would have belonged to this Jaina ancient site. You may well imagine the large numbers of valuable Jaina images which must have been taken from here over the years.
As the Govt. is celebrating a thousand years of Khajuraho, the Jaina art and its aesthetic value should not be neglected as there Jaina temples provide a window of one of the most splendid temples sites in the history of the world.
Sahu Ramesh Chand Jain of Delhi attended this festival at inugural day to introduce a book on 'Khajuraho', but he has not uttered a single word in the glory of Jaina heritage. He said nothing about the neglection of Jaina art in the millennium. It is shameful to our Jaina Samāja. For active participation in millennium, no significant contribution has been come out by local management.
It is symbol of our so called, true dedication to our Jaina heritage and culture.
