the great depression. and the Il nd world war, eight lacs (8,00,000/-) families lost their land, while during 1949 to 1989, the period of great prosperity, some 34,00,000/- (thirthy four lacs) famillies have lost their inheritances and in Canada 1/10 of all farmers went out of business in 1989 due to financial collapse.
Mechanised farming, inevitably accompanied by chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides, does nothing to keep soil in good heart. Soil starved of organic manuring gets impoverished and ultimately fertility is irretievably lost. A farming method that changes large tracks of land, once most fertile into barren desert is by no means scientific and incapable to feed mankind for a longer time. FERTILISER IMPORTS

(Figures from Economic Survery - 8th Plan) Slaughter of cattle wealth has places tremendous monetory strain on our economy resulting in unbearable national debt which if not managed promptly, might lead to, which may perhaps be called, National Insolvancy. Internal Debt

However, the basic question is whether the country can sustain mechanisation ? According to a study by Institution of Economic Growth (Chairman Dr. Man Mohan Singh) to replace Animal Energy, our Country would require. - 20 Million tractors - $ 20 billion worth of petroleum products for these tractors.
(Present import of oil is about $ 7.0 billion). - Investment required for such number of tractors would be Rs. 5 Lacs Crores.
