Para-bhavanas bridge the gap between the spiri- tually developing self and the world. These bhavanas serve as a connection to the soul. Maitri (Friendliness), Pramod/Mudita (apprecia- un tion/adoration of virtues), Karuna (compassion) and Madhyastha (equanimity/indifference) propunded by the Jain saints have a direct impact on the behaviour of humans in relation to other living beings. Adoption of these reflections culminate into constructive con- • duct of humans towards all life forms. The second in the line of four Para-bhavanas su- preme reflections) after Maitri and before Karuna and Madhyastha, Pramod Bhavana in an antidote to jeal- mousy and pride, the devastating extension of Raag- Dvesh (attachment-aversion). Jealousy is an emotion erupting from the basic tendency to possess which in turn is influenced by greed one of the last but most gripping of the four • Kasaya. The non acceptance of the fact that others possess and I don't', again is influenced by pride or ego the second Kasaya which gives rise to anger and deceit. E The world is not devoid of either the virtues and the vices. Virtues are virtues and vices are vices. They will remain in this world of existence. They are universal. These are also recognized as Punya- ē paap, good-bad, auspicious-inauspicious bhavas and activities. Otherwise self-and conceit for others will lead to ě hypocrisy. This would steer away the person from progress in spirituality dragging down into a deep pit of delusion, a state that would drastically increase un cycles of birth-death. Pramod, a state of experience of earnest joy and zeal for those who possess higher and superior quali- ties is a measure of spiritual maturation. Whenever one comes across virtuous persons, one should sin- • cerely respect, honour, and admire thier virtues g Human nature is such that it engulfs oneself in the fire of pride and jealousy even towards the પ્રબુદ્ધ જીવત : બીર ભાવતા વિશેષાંક BN પ્રબુદ્ધ જીવી : બાર ભાવતા વિશેષાંક BN પ્રબુદ્ધ જીવત : બાર ભાવતા વિશેષાંક ## પ્રબુદ્ધ જીવત : બાર sucess of near and dear ones. The flames of this fire result in cheating, lying, and hurting others. The extinguisher of this fire here is the Pramod bhavana. If one learns to identify and praise virtues in others it leaves no room for pride, jealousy and conceit. Pramod Bhavana in the scriptures is conceptualized with a primary objective of cognizing the supreme virtues of Shri Jineshwara Bhagwan. Shri Vinayvijayji in Shri Shant Sudharas granth further accomodates categories of renounciated monks, the worthy house-holders, women folk, the mithyatvin (non-believers), aminals and even the non-living in cognition of virtues keeping in accordance with the scriptural concept and interpretation. Shri Tirthankara Bhagwan Jain religion emphasizes on virtues and not individuals. It is more of a virtue-glorifying' path rather & than individual praising' path. The foremost revered Namaskara Mahamantra' is nothing but paying obei- 3 sance to the virtues in Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya and Sadhu. No names are given in this prayer. It marks only worship of virtues and not individuals. Tirthankars are role models. All the virtues that they possessed have to emerge in us. The first step towards achieving those virtues is their acknoweldgement and veneration. They are divine abodes of virtues which are the right faith, the right knowledge, the right conduct, and 38 the right penance. These should be praised with highest possible honour and respect to Tirthankars who showed the path of liberation. ।१।। Fortunate are the Vitraag who like a Gandhnaag of the three worlds have annihilated the attachment from karmas by ascending the sequence of Kushpak (the 14 step measure of liberation), who have witnessed the stimulation of the conscious abstinence through acquisition of knowledge in the natural course.
