________________ 46 PRABUDDH JEEVAN What to do, when Nothing to do? Laxmichand Kenia As a Dharmik person I understand that basic five percepts of life are (1) Satya (2) Ahimsa (3) Achaurya (4) Brahmacharya (5) Aparigrah. Added to these percepts are RAGA and Dwesha. The Raga and Dwesha are the causes of Karma bandhan. When there is NO RAGA and No Dwesha...there is No Karma bandhan. No Karma bandhan means, no rebirth, no cause of perpetual suffering. As such, the activity should be such that there is no Karma bandhan. When I do not have any thing to do' or any activity I do when I have nothing to do' should be `Free of Karma Bandhan' Human life is precious. Every moment available to live should be utilised wisely say all saints and scriptures of Jain, Budhist and Hindu religions. In general, we all use time towards activities which will keep us happy. Some time we spend time to earn for living, other time to keep us fit i.e. walk, exercise or entertainment to become stress free or eat, sleep etc. An Ahinsak and in Drishtha Bhav an observer can not have any thought of Parigriha and can not break vow of Brahmacharya or Achaurya. ie At that moment Still, Many times we are confronted with what to do, you become `HOLDER OF ALL IMPORTANT FIVE when we do not have anything to do !!! We often say...getting Bored. Some time for a few minutes... Other time for many hours. I looked for an answer and activity that I can do, which can be productive and satisfying to my mind and arrived at the following. The witnessing of breath is TRUTH of that Moment. ie you are with TRUTH or Satya Being with TRUTH and in Drishta Bhav Observer you can not be HINSAK ie you are Ahinsak at that moment. `Watching of Breath' fits in the category of `No Karm Bandhan moment' as I will explain below. We all know, the world around us is changing each moment. The atom is changing, molecules are changing, particles are changing, we are changing. We perceive the world with Five Senses and the Mind. The Mind is constantly being updated due to experiences of senses at each moment. So `This Reality is TRUE only for this moment'. The next moment it is new and changed reality. So when we observe or watch the breath in this moment ie the breath is coming in or the breath is going out from Nostril, Just as an observer, with Dristha Bhav we are observing what is happening at that moment. JUNE 2014 PRECEPTS OF JAINISM' When you are with your breath there is no reason for you to be `in RAG or Dwesh'. Being your own natural breath you are watching, you cannot have LIKING or Disliking towards your own breath. There can not be any attachment to your breath. Since there is No liking or disliking. No rag. No Dwesh. As such there is no Karm Bandhan at that moment. You have done a productive activity of LIVING a MOMENT without Karm Bandhan. When there is no Karma bandhan... There has to be Karma Nirijara..or old karma will manifest to be eliminated. All you have to do is maintain tranquility towards what is manifesting and it will pass away. You become free from stock of karma, you will become free from Bondage. You will experience peace, tranquility. You can reWith my search, I ran across an activity of watching peat the same to `next moment and Next moment' my own Breath. and so on. whatever time you have. So when you have nothing to do watch your breath..Just pure Observation..with Drishta Bhav...There is No Karma bandhan.. Its better than `Time Pass'. In addition you will have other advantages like: 1. Increased concentration 2. Possitivity of Life 3. Calm mind and Relaxed mind 4. De stressing effect on mind and body 5. Less Agitation 6. Knowing your self better Happy Breath Watching. C/o. Shatilal Kunverji & Company 113, Keshavji Naik Road, Mumbai-400 009. M: 98690 36900.
