________________ Concept of Śila in Jainism : 111 (iii) Kaya-duṣpraṇidhāna (Misdirection of body)- This aticāra implies failure to make pratilekhana and parimärjana of the ground and of all material objects and to keep the hands, feet and other limbs of the body amounting pramāda in performance of the sāmāyika. (iv) Smṛti-akaraṇa (Forgetfulness of Sāmāyika)- It is simply lack of concentration. This is an inability through extreme carelessness to remember whether the sāmāyika has been completed or not. (v) Anavsthita-karaṇa (Instability of Sāmāyika)-This is explained as a failure to observe the proper formalities in carrying out the sāmāyika. It includes a readiness to give it up after a short time or taking of food immediately after it is finished. 2. Vow of reducing further the sphere of Digvrata for a limited period of time (Deśāvakāśika-vrata) It is the vow of reducing for a limited period of time the limits or set forth in the sixth vow of Digvratas. In other words it is a reduced version of Digvrata in time and place. Because of identical with the Digvrata it was omitted from the list of Sikṣāvrata by those ācāryas who make sallekhanā the subject of the last sikṣāvrata. This vow is to be taken to further lessening the sphere of Digvrata. Abhayadeva3 describes this vrataas an assumption for a limited time (avakāśa) for a day or for a fix period of time of the restrictions of place (deśa) set forth in Digvrata since freedom of movement is restricted to a tiny part of the area previously measured out. In this vow the vower has to contract his harmful activities and reduce the danger caused by them by imposing narrower limits on his own. The Śrāvakācāra 35 describes following aticäras of this vrata: (i) Anayana-prayoga (Having something brought from outside)- to have something brought from outside the limits.36 Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
