(iii) Tiryak-dik-pramāṇatikrama (Going beyond the limits in horizontal direction)-this applies to normal traveling in all directions, north, south, east and the west; and the boundaries are set fairly wide. Bhogopabhogaprimāņa-vrata (Vow of limiting the Quantity of things one will use) This is the vow of limiting one's enjoyment of consumable and non-consumable things everyday. There are two types of things, viz. bhoga (consumables) and upabhoga (consumables more than one time). 20 Bhoga things are those, which can be used only once or used internally such as food, flower garlands, betel or other etables, water etc. Upabhoga things or those that can be used repeatedly or used externally viz. clothes, bed, furniture, women, vehicles, etc. This vow is to limit the quantity of bhoga and upabhoga things. It is a self-imposed restriction to the number of things to be used, etc. One who practices it knows how much restraint is to put on the free play of desires by its observance. Two basic division of this vrata are recognized by Svetāmbaras: 21 it may refer to food eaten or to occupation pursued. Other topics included under the bhogopabhoga-parimāņa-vrata are: anantakāyas, the abhakşyas and rätri-bhojana. Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
