From fourth to twelfth century A.D., there have been found in Epigraphia Carnatika, various inscriptions which testify to the building of Jaina temples, consecration of Jaina images of worship, hollowing out caves for the Jaina asceties and grant to the Jaina preceptors by the Ganga dynasty rulers.

According to the Inscriptions at Shravan Belagola, by Lewis Rice, (op. cit), p. 2, Camuṇḍaraya composed a work called Camundaraya Purāṇa, which contains an epitome of the history of 24 Tīrthankaras, ending with the date Śaka 900, or 978 A.D.
