has four mānastambhas, one standing at each of the four entries, a Digambara temple has only one. (figs. 11, 18; 12, 13) This is one indication that the temple itself stands in some way for the samavasaraṇa. Early reference to the mānastambha can be recognized in the columns appearing on certain Mathura āyāgapaṭas.
