obtained the (volume (V) in) cubic ussehu-joyaņas, and multiplied (the result) by the multiplier told before, the (volume in) cubic pamūņa-umgulas is produced. (Dhavalā on CK 1.3.2; vol. 4, p. 35)
The data is incomplete since the 'height' (h) is not given. Taking the 'length' (a) of the conch-sell to be identical with the 'diameter' (d) in the cited verse, we have:
A = {# -*+ (%) *}*2+1, and V = Ax -m+husseka-joyapa”, or
h-m V=AX
+h

pamāņa-amgula3
The meaning of the factor, (h-m + h)/4, is not known, but it is perhaps a modified height. The number, 15363, in the last step is the change ratio between the cubic pumānu-amgulas ('standard' amgula) and the cubic ussehu-joyanas ("height' = joyaņa). According to the Digambara table of measures (cf. Tiloyapaņņatti 1.102 116),
1 pamāņa-amgulas = 500 ussehu-umgulas, 1 ussehu-joyaņa = 768000 ussehu-uṁgulas
Therefore,
1 ussehu-joyuņu} = 15363 pumāņu-umgulas
According to the Svetāmbara table of measures (cf. Aņuogaddūrāim 358),
1 pumāņa-umgula = 1000 ussehu-ungulas
