લગતી બાબતના અભ્યાસની અગત્ય એગ્ય રીતે મનાતી નથી. પ્રોફેસર લેન્ડન કહે છે કે - The strange thing is that teaching is about the only art, which is supposed not to need earnest study and constant painstaking practice to learn efficiently. There are still many, it is to be feared, who see nothing in teaching beyond simply telling children what they have to learn, and who look upon knowledge of a subject as the only necessary condition for teaching it. No amount of earnestness or exertion will enable a person, who has not learned by laborious efforts how to do so, to paint a picture or play a musical instrument. Why should it be expected that teaching alone will come by intuition ? And the matter becomes stranger still when we consider the immense importance of the issues at stake; and take into account the terrible waste of time and efforts and the mischief done to young minds as a result of bad teaching.
એ વિસ્મયજનક છે કે માત્ર શિક્ષણને જ ધંધા એવો છે કે જેમાં ગ્ય જ્ઞાન મેળવવાને સતત અને ઉગી મહાવરાની અને આતુર અભ્યાસની અગત્ય મનાતી નથી. એ ભયભરેલું છે કે અધાપિ પર્ષત ઘણુ મનુ છે કે જેઓ શિષ્યને શીખવવાના વિષયને તેની આગળ માત્ર બેલી જવા ઉપરાંત તેમાં કાંઈ વિશેષતા હોય એમ માનતા નથી. તેઓ (શીખવવાના) વિષયના જ્ઞાનને શિક્ષણ (શીખવવાને ) એગ્ય સ્થિતિમાં હોય એમ માને છે. સપ્ત પ્રયત્ન ચિત્રકળાને કે વાધ યંત્ર વગાડવાનો અભ્યાસ કર્યા વિના ગમે તેટલી આતુરતા રાખવાથી કે ઉધોગ કરવાથી કઇ પણ મનુષ્ય ચિત્ર કાઢવામાં કે વાધ યંત્ર વગાડવામાં સરળ થતો નથી તે શિક્ષણકળાનું જ્ઞાન સ્વતઃ સ્વાભાવિક અને પ્રાપ્ત થઈ શકે
એવી કલ્પના કરવી તે નિરર્થક છે. આ ઉપરાંત કેળવણી જેવા મુદ્દાના સવાલની અત્યંત ઉપયોગિતા વિષે અને ખરાબ શિક્ષણના પરિણામે કુમળા મગજને જે નુકશાન થાય છે તેને અને સમય અને બળને જે ભયંકર મિથ્યા વ્યય થાય છે તેને વિચાર કરતાં શિક્ષણ કળાનું જ્ઞાન સહજ પ્રાપ્ત થઈ શકે એવી કલ્પના કરવી એ વિશેષ વિસ્મયજનક જણાશે.” પ્રોફેસર લેન્ડને મહાવરાના સિદ્ધાંતના પક્ષકારોને મેગ્ય શબ્દમાં ન્યાય આપેલ છે. સિદ્ધાં. તોના જ્ઞાન વિનાનું શિક્ષણ ખરાબ નીવડે છે જે બાળકના કુમળા મગજને નુકશાન કરે છે, ખરાબ શિક્ષણથી શિષ્ય અને શિક્ષક ઉભયને સમય અને બળ નકામાં ખરચાય છે.
“ Teachers no less than doctors must go through a course of professional training, Froebel” કાબેલ કહે છે કે “વૈધ કરતાં શિક્ષકને ધંધાની તાલીમ લેવાની કાંઈ ઓછી અગત્ય નથી.”
