વિચારવા આતુર હોય, તેને સામગ્રી પૂરી પાડીએ. આજના કાળમાં જૈનધમ 'ની પ્રભાવના માટેનું આ અંગ અતિમહત્ત્વનું છે. વધુ નહીં તે નિમ્ન લેખ વાંચી, એમાં જે માગણી કરી છે એ તરફ આપણે ચિત્ત બનીએ.
The Vaisali Sangh is to be complimented on its decision to start an Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Prakrit and Jainology. Jainism, unlike Buddhism, did not travel beyond the country of its birth but, judged by the number of adherents. Jainism has proved a stronger force in India than Buddhism. Even if it had proved itself to be less vital, the importance of research in its doctrines and literature as part of Indological studies would have ramained equally great. The Sangha has appropriately decided to establish the Institute at Vaisali, birthplace of Mahavira, the last of the Tirthankaras, in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. Specialisation usually implies bigatry and a narrow outlook and it is gratifying to note that in order to avoid this danger the Sangha proposes to invite for work in the Institute pandits and scholars with a modern outlook. The centre will also work in collaboration with the few small bodies that have already been promoting research in Jainism. This should minimise overlapping and duplication.
—વૈશાલી સધે જૈન વિદ્યાએ અને પ્રાકૃતના અનુસ્નાતક સંશોધન અને અધ્યયન માટે એક સંસ્થા શરૂ કરવાના જે નિય કર્યાં છે તે માટે એને અભિનંદન લ છે. બૌદ્ધ ધર્મ જેમ પાતાની જન્મભૂમિ ઉપરાંત બહારના દેશોમાં ફેલાયા તેમ, જૈન ધમ પેાતાની જન્મભૂમિની ઉપરાંત બહાર ફૈન્નાયેા ન હોવા છતાં અનુયાયીઓની સંખ્યાની દૃષ્ટિએ વિચારતાં, હિંદુસ્થાનમાં જૈનમ બૌદ્ધધર્મ કરતાં વધારે શક્તિશાળી બળ તરીકે પુરવાર થયેલ છે. કદાચ એણે પોતાની જાતને ઓછી પ્રાણવાન પુરવાર કરી હાત તા પણ ભારતીય વિદ્યા એના અધ્યયનના એક અંગ તરીકે એના સિદ્ધાંતા અને સાહિત્યના સશોધનની અગત્ય તા એટલી જ માટી રહેવાની હતી. સધે બિહાર પ્રાન્ત મુજફ્ફરપુર જિલ્લામાં આવેલ વૈશાલી– કે જે છેલ્લા તીથ'કર મહાવીરની જન્મભૂમિ છે—ત્યાં એક સ’સ્થાની સ્થાપના કરવાના નિણૅય કર્યાં છે તે વાજબી કર્યું છે. વિશિષ્ટતા (અમુક વિશિષ્ટ ઉદ્દેશ માટે કરવામાં આવેલ વ્યવસ્થા) સામાન્ય રીતે અધશ્રદ્ધા અને સ'કુચિત દૃષ્ટિનુ' સૂચન કરે છે, અને એ જાણીને સંતાય થાય છે કે, આ ભયનું નિવારણ કરવા માટે સધ આ સસ્થામાં કામ કરવા માટે આધુનિક દૃષ્ટિ ધરાવતા પડિતા અને વિદ્વાનાને આમંત્રણ આપવાને વિચાર ધરાવે છે. જે થોડીઘણી નાની નાની સસ્થાએ જૈનધમસબંધી સશોધનકાર્યને વેગ આપી રહેલી છે તેના પણ સહકાર મેળવીને આ મુખ્ય સંસ્થા પાતાનુ કામ કરશે. આમ થવાથી કાઈ પણ ક્રામ ઢંકાઈ જવાની કે ખેવડાઈ જવાના સોગામાં ઘટાડા થઈ જશે.
