Rāmāyaṇa Characters In The Thai Mould
masterly skill. Like the other epic figures, he has lost much of his sheen. He does not differ much from any other powerful man. VIBHIŞAŅA
The sole epic character that has risen in stature in the Thai classic is Vibhīsana, bundled out of the kingdom for no fault of his. Though seen in occasional flashes only, he has a pivotal role to play in almost everything that transpires in the epic. He represents a unique fusion of friend, guide and philosopher. It was because of him that Rāma could weather a series of disasters that befell him at different points of time. The credit for retrieving Rāma from the jaws of death, and doing Maiyarāba and Rāvana to death rests with his marvellous strategies, planned and executed to bring prompt result.
