‘TĀTPARYA' IN BHOJA

We will first go along with Dr. Raghavan who has ably explained Bhoja's position. After that we will try to see if we can differ from or supplement the efforts of Dr. Raghavan. We will quote the full text in the beginning.
(pp. 246, śr. pra. Edn-Josyer.) : Yatparah sabdaḥ sa sabdārthaḥ iti tātparyam. tacca vākya eva upapadyate; padamātrena abhiprāyasya prakāśayitum aśakyatvāt.
tacca vākya-pratipādyam vastu trirūpam bhavati; abhidhīyamānam pratīyamānam, dhvanirūpam ca. yatra yad upātta-śabdeşu mukhyā-gauni-laksanādibhiḥ śábda-śaktibhiḥ svam artham abhidhāya uparata-vyāpāreņu ākānksăsannidhi-yogyatādibhir vākyārtha-mātram abhidhīyate, tad abhidhīyamānam. Yathā gaur gacchatīti vākyarthāvagater uttarkālam vākyarthe upapadyamano 'nupapadyamāno vā'rtha-prakaranaucityādi-sahakstau yat pratyāyayati tat pratīyamānam. Yathā 'visam bhunksva, mā cāsya grhe bhunkthāh”, ityukte varam viņam bhakṣitam, na punarasya gļhe bhuktam iti pratīyate. artha-sabdopāyād upasarjanīksta-svārtho, vākyārthāvagater anantaram anunādarūpam pratiśabdarūpam vā abhivyañjayati tad dhvanirūpam.
..tacca na sārvatrikam. tathāhi, yathā nivștte abhighāte kasyacid eva kāmsyāder dravyasya anunādo jāyate kasyacid eva kandarādeh pratiśabdah. Yatha kasyacid eva vākyasya pratiyamānā'bhidhīyamāna-vākyārtha-pratīter anantaram dhvanirupalabhyate iti. nimisati esā'ityukte aksnor nimeso' bhidhīyate, devi na bhavati iti pratīyate rūpātiśayaśca dhvanati. atha eşām prayogah -
tatrabhidhīyamānam caturdhā - vidhirūpam, nisedharūpam, vidhi-nisedharūpam, a-vidhi-nisedharūpam ca. -------- .25\9 pratīyamānam punar anekadhā
kvacid vidhau nisedhaḥ ..... kvacinnisedhe vidhih, .... kvacid vidhau vidhyantaram .....
