But Dr. Bhat could have, following the path of Anandavardhana and Abhinavagupta, taken the study further as he has expected here. He could have hinted at the thinking and analysis with his wide and deep life-time study, his tapas, his thorough grasp, and his authority on literary criticism and aesthetics. He is competent enough to do this. We however, derive satisfaction from Dr. Bhat's words in the Preface'
"I wish to write, some day a bigger and comprehensive book on this subject".
We students of literary criticism and aesthetics will anxiously wait for the book and wish him a long and healthy life for the purpose. As it is, the book is authentic and very well laid in its structure. The further questions that the work poses are very well laid down together with the possible line of thinking that we can take on them. The work is thus thought-provoking.
In the end, the reviewer may be permitted to add that the very valuable work could have been made available to students and scholars at a lesser price by the University.

ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણના ક્ષેત્રમાં સંસ્કૃતની અવદશા છે, ત્યારે સંસ્કૃતના અને તેમાં પણ કાવ્યમીમાંસાના ગ્રન્થનું સંપાદન કરવું એ સ્વયં એક સાહસ છે. આવા એક સાહસ તરીકે છે. અનન્તરાય જ, રાવલના સમ્પાદિત 'કાબાદશ”ને આપણે આવકારીએ, ખાસ એ સંદર્ભમાં કે ડીરચિત “કાવ્યાદર્શ ' ગુજરાતની યુનિવર્સિટીઓમાં માત્ર એમ. એ. માં અને તે પણ અલંકારશાસ્ત્રના વૈકદ્વિપક અભ્યાસક્રમમાં કૈઈ કઈ વખત પાઠશ્વપુસ્તક તરીકે હાય છે. આમ વિદ્યાથી–જગતમાં જેના વેચાણને લઘુતમ અવકાશ છે, એવું આ સમ્પાદન પ્રગટ કરવા માટે આ પણે સંપાદક અને પ્રકાશકને અભિનન્દન આપીએ.
| ગુજરાતી ભાષાનુવાદ સાથે આ કૃતિ પહેલી જ વખત ગુજરાતીમાં ઉપલબ્ધ થાય છે. એ રીતે પણ આ સંપાદન ખરેખર આવકાર પાત્ર છે. ડો. રાવલે પહેલાં આપણને ભામહને “કાવ્યાલંકાર” આપે છે. અને “ કાવ્યાદર્શ ' તેમનું બીજુ પ્રદાન છે. બીજા પ્રધાન તરીકે આ કૃતિનાં પ્રસ્તાવના, અનુવાદ અને ટિપ્પણમાં લેખક વધુ ચક્કસ, વ્યવસ્થિત, વિસ્તીર્ણ અને વૈજ્ઞાનિક બન્યા છે. એ રીતે આ કૃતિની ગુણવત્તા આગલા સમ્પાદન કરતાં વિશેષ છે.
