About a Forgotten Grammarian Dhana pala ‘ürjana' in place of, 'upärjapa’ Sakaļāyana and Kșiraśvāmi notice the same meaning. 2.2.4. Kuth-Dhanapāla restricts meaning of this root to 'pratigbata' rather than 'gati' and 'pratighāta' as given by Śakatāyana, Kșirasvāmi and Malte reyarakṣita. Pa. Dhātupātha gives only 'pratighāta' as the meaning of this root, Some Madhava seems to have accepted this restriction of Dhanapala, as Vasudeval4 notes while illustrating and discussing this root, 2.2.5. $uth-Accoring to Dhanapāla15, šuth also denotes only pratighāta and not 'gati'.
2.2.6. Ghusir-Pa. Dhätupātha, Mā.Dha.Vr.10 and Daśapadyunādi vịtti,17 assign the meaning "avisabdane to this root while Dhanapala 18 thinks that this root denotes sabdartha'. Kşirasvāmi19 and Bhagavrttikära20 assign the same meaning to this root. Sakatāyana, Durga21 and Hemacandra22 state (sabda' as the meaning of this root.
2.2.7. Cak-Pa, Dbatupātha reads "cak' twice in Gana I. First it occurs in the Sokādi sub-class where it is given as 'caka trptau pratighāte ca' and it is declared Atmanepadı. Again it occurs in Ghaladi sub-class where it means only trpti' and is Parasmaipadı. Dhanapala assigns the meaning "trpti' to 'cak' read in Sokādi group and allots the meaning 'trpti and pratighăta' to Ghatādi "cak'. In the case of this root he again differs from Pā, Dhatupātha in that he declares Ghatādi 'cak' to be Ātmanepadi, while all other Dbatupāthas and commentators read it Parasmaipadj. 2.2.8. Din-Pā. Dhātupātha furnishes 'vibayasā gatau', as its meaning. Dhan apala virtually accepts the same viz Akāśagamana. Kşiraswāmi28. Purusakara 24 and Hemacandra25 on the other hand furnish the meaning 'vihaya šām gatau'. Dhanapala26 rejects this meaning. He seems to bave found in used in the sense of flying to the sky (in the case of human or celestia.
