The 'Jain Journal, Calcutta has completed 25 years of meaningful existence. It has proved its significance and has carved out a niche for itself with covetted distinction. The contribution it has made to the all round indepth studies of Jainism have won spurs for it and its able, scholarly and ingenious editor Sri Ganesh Lalwani, who is an embodiment of Jain tenets and a mentor with wide learning of the scriptures. It is, as I feel due to his dedication that the Jain Journal has stood the test of time and is now celebrating its Silver Jubilee to embark upon a brighter future to contribute to the understanding of our great religion and philosophy and culture. The multi-facet personality of Sri Lalwani will ever steer it to that citadel.

कलकत्ता के जैन भवन द्वारा प्रकाशित 'जैन जर्नल' गत अनेक दशकों से जैन संस्कृति एवं साहित्य के क्षेत्र में सराहनीय कार्य कर रहा है। इस सुप्रसिद्ध जर्नल का महत्व इसलिए भी हमारा ध्यान आकर्षित करता है कि इसका केन्द्र बंगाल है और कहने की आवश्यकता नहीं कि प्राचीन काल में बंगाल ( जिसमें विहार और उड़ीसा भी सम्मिलित थे ) भगवान महावीर एवं उनके प्रमुख शिष्यों की केन्द्रस्थली रही है । आधुनिक बंगाल में आज भी कितने ही प्राचीन स्थान ऐसे हैं जो जैन धर्म एवं संस्कृति के प्रचण्ड केन्द्र स्थल रहे हैं और जो आज या तो लुप्त हो गये हैं अथवा सामान्य जनता द्वारा पूजनीय माने जाने लगे हैं ।
