Diwali in Jainism is the jubilation to commemorate the salvation or Moksha attained the Lord Sraman Mahavira at the dawn of the Amavasya (new moon - early next morning) - According Harivansh Purana. The chief disciple of Mahavira, Ganadhara Gautam Swami also attained complete knowledge (Kevalgyana) on this day at Evening - According Uttar Purana, thus making Diwali one of the most important Jain festivals.
दिवाली जैन धर्म में उल्लास के साथ स्मरणोत्सव के रूप में महावीर भगवान के मोक्ष प्राप्ति के लिए मनाया जाता है [कार्तिक कृष्णा अमावस - प्रत्यूष बेला] - हरिवंश पुराण, महावीर भगवान के सर्वोच्च शिष्य गणधर गौतम स्वामी ने भी इस दिन केवलज्ञान प्राप्त किया था संध्याकाल के समय [उत्तर पुराण], इसलिए दिवाली बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण जैन पर्व है !
Jainism existed before Lord Mahaveer, he's one of the supreme teachers (Tirthanakar) and a reformer but due to ignorance of scriptures, manuscripts & history misconception he's considered as founder.
जैन धर्म महावीर भगवान से पहले भी अस्तित्व में था, महावीर भगवान प्रधान गुरु श्रमण तीर्थंकर तथा संशोधक थे , पर धर्मपुस्तक, पाण्डुलिपि, इतिहास, विवरण भ्रांति की अज्ञानता के कारण महावीर भगवान को जैन धर्म का संस्थापक मान लिया गया है ! हलाकि कुछ वर्षों में इसमें संशोधन भी किया गया है !
Diwali was first referred in Harivamsha Purana (Holy Book of Jainism) written by Acharya Jinasena as dipalika (splendour of lamps). In his words the gods illuminated Pavagiri by lamps to mark the occasion. Since that time, the people of Bharat celebrate the famous festival of Dipalika to worship the Jinendra (i.e. Lord Mahavira) on the occasion of his nirvana:
