________________ Sumatiharsa here lists his previous commentaries as being on the Sripatipaddhati (no. II), the Mahadevi composed by Mahādeva in 1316, the Vivahapatala of Brahmärka (no 1), and the Byhatparvamala composed by Purusottama before 1490. It is regrettable that two of these four are no longer in existence. He then states that he completed the Karika at Kheravä on 21 February 1621 during the reign of Visnudāsa Nrpati, a ruler of whom I have so far succeeded in discovering no other trace. Sumatiharsa himself here assumes the title Samanta or feudatory. Finally, he claims to have written this tīkā upon the insistence of Ratpa, a relative of his guru, Harsaratna, and of Dhanarāja, whom we will discuss later. The colophon to the Karikā names Harșaratna's guru Mahopadhyāya Udayarāja Gani; this information is also given in the colophon of the next work. In the text itself Sumatiharșa uses as his example the horoscope of an individual born on 7 May 1535 and his fifty-ninth anniversary horoscope, dated 7 May 1594. The Ganakakumudakaumudi, a commentary on the Karanakutūhala composed by Bhaskara in 1183. This is the only work of Sumatiharşa's to have been printed; the edition by Madhava Sastri Purohita was published at Bombay ip 1901. I have also consulted the two Harvard manuscripts, Sanskrit 37 and 1105. The eighth introductory verse is : śrīsripatividitakeśavapaddhati dve brahmārkaśīghrakhagasiddhim atho vivrtya ! mālā ca parvasahitā bịhatīti tasyāḥ särasya täji kadhuro vivsti apudyām 11 This adds to the previously known commentaries on the Srīpatipaddhati, the Vivāhapatala, the Mahā devi (sighrakhagasiddhi), the Brhatparvamala, and the Tajikasāra, one on the Jätakapaddhati of Keśava" as is the case with so many other of Sumatiharsa's works no manuscript of this one is presently available. At the end of the ţikā are the following verses : vindhyadrim nikasă puri suviditā sarvarddhi vrddhyānvită tannetāsti bhatah svavamsatilakaś caulukyavamsodbhavah susriviramade sunītinipuno hemādrir eväparo yo 'bhūd yāvanabhüpatin sthiratarán pronmülya rājanyake! 1.
