२२१. प्रश्न: उपशम श्रेणी वाले के चारित्र मोहनीय की शेष २१ प्रकृतियों का उपशम किस प्रकार होता है ? उत्तर : उपशम श्रेणी में होने वाले उपशम का क्रम क्षपणा विधि के समान है, परन्तु कुछ विशेषता है, वह यह कि यहाँ अनिवृत्तिकरण के ६ भागों में से दूसरे भाग में अप्रत्याख्यानावरण और प्रत्याख्यानावरण चतुष्क, इन आठ कषायों का उपशम नहीं होता किन्तु पुरुषवेद और संज्वलन के पहले होता है तथा उसका क्रम ऐसा है कि पुरुषवेद का उपशम होने के बाद अप्रत्याख्यान और प्रत्याख्यान दोनों के क्रोध का उपशम होता है पश्चात् संज्वलन क्रोध का उपशम होता है । यही क्रम मानादि में भी जानना चाहिए।

उत्तर : जिस प्रकार बटी हुई जेवड़ी का बल उलटा घुमाने से निकाल दिया जाता है इसी प्रकार बँधी हुई प्रकृति को पीछे परिणामों की विशेषता से अन्य प्रकृति रूप परिणमा कर नष्ट कर देना, अर्थात् उसका फल उदय में नहीं आने देने को उद्वेलना कहते हैं। उद्वेलित प्रकृति का अपने रूप से सच नहीं रहता।
