कुछ मतभेद न होने पर भी कुछ पारिभाषिक शब्दों में, उनकी व्याख्याओं में और कहीं-कहीं तात्पर्य में थोड़ा-बहुत भेद हो गया जिसकी परम्परा आज भी पूर्ववत् चल रही है । भेदबिन्दुओं को यथास्थान आगे प्रस्तुत करेंगे ।
(२) संकलना- भगवान महावीर के समय से अब तक कर्मशास्त्र की जो उत्तरोतर संकलना होती आई है, उसके स्थूल दृष्टि से तीन विभाग बतलाये जा सकते हैं - (क) पूर्वात्मक कर्मशास्त्र, (स) पूर्व से उद्धृन (आकर रूप कार्मशाल्य), और (ग) प्राकरणिक कर्मशास्त्र ।
(क) पूर्वात्मक कर्मशास्त्र --- यह भाग सबसे बड़ा और सबसे पहला है, पपीक इसवः अधिस्व सब ना जाता है, जब तक कि पूर्व विद्या विच्छिन्न नहीं हुई थी। भगवान् महावीर के बाद करीब नौ सौ या एक हजार वर्ष तक ऋमिक ह्रास रूप से पूर्व विद्या वर्तमान रही । 'चौदह में से आठवा पूर्व जिसका नाम कर्मप्रवाद है, मुख्यतया कर्मविषयक ही था, परन्तु इसके अतिरिक्त दूसरे पूर्व 'अग्रावणीय' में भी कमतत्त्व के विवार का एक कर्म-प्राभूत नामक भाग था। इस समय श्वेताम्बर या दिगम्बर साहित्य में पूर्वात्मक कर्म. शास्त्र का मूल अंश वर्तमान नहीं है ।
