प्रथम कर्मग्रन्थ
वेदत्रिक के बन्ध-कारण इस प्रकार हैं
(क) ईर्ष्यालु, विषयों में आसक्त, अतिकुटिल, स्त्रीलंपट जीव स्त्रीवेद को बांधता है।
(ख) स्वदार-सन्तोषी, मन्दकषायी, सरल, शीलवतयुक्त जीव पुरुषवेद का बन्ध करता है।
(ग) ती विषयाभिलाषी, नैतिकता की मर्यादा भंग करने वाला आदि जीव नपुंसकवेद का बन्च करता है ।
इस प्रकार चारित्रमोहनीय कर्म के बन्धहतुओं का कथन करने के बाद अब आयुकर्म के चार भेदों में से नरकायु के बन्ध के कारणों को बतलाते हैं
बहुत आरम्भ करने, बहुत परिग्रह रखने, उसके संग्रह की चिन्ता में डूबे रहने, रौद्र परिणामों और पंचेन्द्रिय प्राणियों की हत्या करने, मांस-भक्षण, वार-बार मैथुन सेवन करने, दूसरे के धन का अपहरण करने आदि-आदि कारणों से जीव को नरकायु का बन्ध होता है । तिर्यचायु और मनुष्यायु के बन्ध हेतु
तिरियाज गूढहियओ सढो ससल्लो तहा मणुस्साउ।
पयईइ तणुकसाओ दाणरुई मजिसमगुणो अ॥५८।। गाथार्य-गूढ़ हृदय, शठ, सशल्य तिर्यचायु का तथा प्रकृति से मन्द कषाय वाला, दान में रुचि रखने वाला और मध्यम गुण वाला मनुष्यायु का बन्ध करता है ।
विशेषार्थ-गाथा में क्रमशः तिर्यंचायु और मनुष्यायु के बन्ध के कारणों को बतलाया है।
तिर्यंचायु के बन्धकारणों ना कथन करते हुए कहा है कि गूढ़हृदय अर्थात् जिसके मन की बात का पता न लग सके, शठ-मीठा

The causes of the bondage of the Vedatrika (three Vedas) are as follows:

Due to excessive activity, excessive attachment, being immersed in the anxiety of its accumulation, cruel dispositions, and killing of the five-sensed beings, meat-eating, frequent indulgence in sexual intercourse, stealing the wealth of others, etc., the being attains the bondage of Narakayus.

Tiryanchayu (life-span in the animal world) and Manushyayu (life-span in the human world) are bound as follows:
Gūḍhahṛdaya, śaṭha, sasalla tiryañcāyu, and the one with mild passions by nature, delighting in charity, and of medium qualities binds the Manushyayu.
