पाप है । अतः सुख को करने वाले और दूसरों को सुख पहुँचाने वाले ' कार्यों द्वारा सातावेदनीय और दुःख के निमित्त जुटाने से असातावेदनीय कर्म का बन्ध होता है । इसी दृष्टि से सातावेदनीय और असातावेदनीय के बन्ध होने के कुछ कारणों को गाथा में बताया है, जो इस प्रकार है
गुरु-भक्ति, क्षमाशीलता, दयालुता व्रतयुक्तता, संयम साधना, कषायविजय दानभावना और धार्मिक श्रद्धा की दृढ़ता मे सातावेदनीय कर्म का बन्ध होता है । इसी प्रकार गाथा में जो आदि शब्द है, उससे वृद्ध, बाल, ग्लान आदि की सेवा- वैयावृत्य करना, धर्मात्माओं को उनके धर्मचक कृत्य में सहायता पहुंचाना मैत्री, प्रमोद आदि भावना रखना, लोकोपकारी कार्यों को करना इत्यादि का और ग्रहण कर लेना चाहिए | गाथा में आगत शब्दों के अर्थ क्रमशः इस प्रकार हैं
(१) गुरुजनों (माता-पिता, धर्माचार्य, विद्या पढ़ाने वाले, शिक्षागुरु, ज्येष्ठ भाई, बहन आदि) की सेवा, आदर, सत्कार करना गुरुभक्ति है ।
(२) क्षमा करना अर्थात् बदला लेने की शक्ति होते हुए भी अपने साथ बुरा बर्ताव करने वाले के अपराधों को सहन करना । क्रोध के कारण उपस्थित होने पर भी कोधभाव पैदा न होने देना - क्षमाशीलता है ।
(३) प्राणिमात्र पर करुणाभाव रखना, उनके दुःखों को दूर करने का प्रयत्न करना दयालुता है ।
