Shri Veerasenacharya's Dhavala, Jayadhavala and Mahadhavala commentaries are replete with principles. Detailed exposition of each principle is made in them. When it became difficult for the less intelligent humans to gradually enter into these commentaries, then at the request of Chamundaraya, the prime minister and commander-in-chief of the Ganga dynasty king Rachamalla, Acharya Nemichandra composed the Gommatasara. Chamundaraya was adorned with the title 'Veeramartanda' due to his valor. It was he who got the 57-foot tall statue of Bahubali Swami installed on the Vindhyagiri mountain near Shravanabelagola in Shaka Samvat 900 and Vikrama Samvat 1035. Chamundaraya's real name was Gommata, so the statue installed by him became famous as Gommatswami. The Gommatasara composed by Acharya Nemichandra also became popular in the name of Chamundaraya, which means the essence (sara) of the Dhavala etc. texts written for Gommata (Chamundaraya). There is a famous story in this context that once Acharya Nemichandra was studying the Shat-khandagama texts, when Chamundaraya came to see him.
