## The Adi Purana [Uttarakhand] Chapter Thirty-Three May the glorious Vrishabha, with the bull as his banner, grant us prosperity. He whose single departure became a great path of liberation. [1] He whose steps are worshipped by Indra, who conquered the power of the cycle of karma, and by the wheel of Dharma, became the emperor of the three worlds. [2] He who, like the sun at the beginning of the day, arose at the beginning of the fourth age, illuminated the world with his radiant words, the essence of divine sound. [3] He who, in the eighteen kotis of oceans of the ascending and descending ages, when the path of liberation was lost, pointed it out and increased the number of Siddhas. [4] He who, among the Tirthankaras, was never touched by the defeat of name-giving, just as Bharat Chakravarti was not touched by the defeat of name-giving in the Chakravartis. [5] By his illumination of the path of liberation, the illumination of the path of liberation by others became redundant. [6] _Thus, may Sri Vrishabha Deva, who bears the inner and outer Lakshmi, whose banner has the symbol of the bull, and whose single departure became a great path of liberation, grant us all well-being. ________________ आदिपुराणम् [उत्तरखण्डम् ] त्रिचत्वारिंशत्तमं पर्व श्रियं तनोतु स श्रीमान् वृषभो वृषभध्वजः । यस्यैकस्य गतेमुक्तमार्गश्चित्रं महानभूत् ॥१॥ विक्रमं कर्मचक्रस्य यश्शक्राभ्यर्चितक्रमः । आक्रम्य धर्मचक्रेण चक्रे त्रैलोक्यचक्रिताम् ॥२॥ योऽस्मिश्चतुर्थकालादौ दिनादौ वा दिवाकरः । जगदुद्योतयामास प्रोद्गच्छद्वारगमस्तिमिः ॥३॥ नष्टमष्टादशाम्भोधिकोटीकोटीषु कालयोः । निर्वाणमार्ग निर्दिश्य येन सिद्धाश्च वर्द्धिताः ॥४॥ तीर्थकृत्सु स्वतः प्राग्यो'' नामादानपराभवः । यमस्मि नस्पृशन्नासौ स्वसूनुमिव चक्रिषु ॥५॥ येन प्रकाशिते' मुक्तार्गेऽस्मिन्नपरेषु तत्' । प्रकाशितप्रकाशोतवैयर्थ्य तीर्थकृत्स्वभूत् ॥६॥ ___ अथानन्तर, जिनकी ध्वजामें वृषभका चिह्न है और सबसे बड़ा आश्चर्य यह है कि जिन एकके जानेसे ही बहुत बड़ा मोक्षका मार्ग बन गया ऐसे अन्तरंग बहिरंग लक्ष्मीको धारण करनेवाले श्री वृषभदेव सबका कल्याण करें ॥१॥ जिनके चरणकमलकी इन्द्र स्वयं पूजा करता है और जिन्होंने धर्मचक्रके द्वारा कर्मसमूहके पराक्रमपर आक्रमण कर तीनों लोकोंका चक्रवर्तीपना प्राप्त किया है ॥२॥ दिनके प्रारम्भमें सूर्यको तरह इस * चतुर्थकालके प्रारम्भमें उदय होकर जिन्होंने फैलती हुई अपनी वाणीरूपी किरणोंसे समस्त जगत्को प्रकाशित किया है अर्थात् दिव्य ध्वनिके द्वारा समस्त तत्त्वोंका उपदेश दिया है ॥३॥ उत्सर्पिणी तथा अवसर्पिणी कालके अठारह कोड़ी सागर तक जो मोक्षका मार्ग नष्ट हो रहा था उसका निर्देश कर जिन्होंने सिद्धोंकी संख्या बढ़ायी है। ॥४॥ जिस प्रकार चक्रवर्तियोंमें अपने पुत्र भरत चक्रवर्तीको उसके पहले किसी अन्य चक्रवर्तीका नाम लेनेसे उत्पन्न हुआ पराभव नहीं छू सका था उसी प्रकार तीर्थकरोंमें अपने पहले किसी अन्य तीर्थ करका नाम लेनेसे उत्पन्न हुआ पराभव जिन्हें छू भी नहीं सका था। भावार्थ-जिस प्रकार भरत इस युगके समस्त चक्रवतियोंमें पहले चक्रवर्ती थे उसी प्रकार जो इस युगके समस्त तीर्थ करोंमें पहले तीर्थ कर थे ॥५॥ जिनके द्वारा इस मोक्षमार्गके प्रकाशित किये जानेपर अन्य तीर्थ करोंमें प्रकाशित हुए मोक्षमार्गको प्रकाशित करनेके कारण उपदेशकी व्यर्थता हुई थी। भावार्थ-इस समय जो मोक्षका मार्ग चल रहा है उसका उपदेश सबसे पहले भगवान् वृषभदेवने ही दिया था उनके पीछे होनेवाले अन्य तीर्थ करोंने भी उसी मार्गका उपदेश दिया है इसलिए उनका उपदेश पुनरुक्त होनेके कारण व्यर्थ-सा जान पड़ता १ गमनात् । २ मुक्तिमार्ग-प०, ल०, म० । ३ कर्मराजसैन्यस्य । ४ जित्वा । ५ चतुर्थकालस्यादौ । ६ इव । ७ उत्सपिण्यवसपिण्योः । ८ उपदेशं कृत्वा । ९ अजितादिषु । १० आत्मनः पुरुजिनात् । ११ पूर्वस्मिन् काले । १२ सामदानपराभवः इति पाठस्य-ल० पुस्तके संकेतः । नामदानपराभवः इति पाठस्य 'द०' पुस्तके संकेतः । अदानपराभव:-आहारादिदानाभाव इति पराभवः । नामदानपराभव इति पाठे कीर्तिदानयोरभाव इति पराभवः । १३ चतुर्थकालस्यादौ। १४ वृषभेण । १५ चतुर्थकालादौ। १६ मोक्षमार्गप्रकाशनम् । १७ प्रकाशितस्य प्रकाशने प्रोक्तव्यर्थत्वम् ।। * भगवान् वृषभदेव तृतीय कालके अन्तमें उत्पन्न हुए और तृतीय कालमें ही मोक्ष पधारे हैं इसलिए आचार्य गुणभद्रने चतुर्थकालके आदिमें होना किस दृष्टिसे लिखा है यह विचारणीय है।
