आदिपुराणम
ज्ञात्वा चावधित्रोधेन तत्सर्व संविधानकम् । ससंभ्रममथोत्थाय सोऽन्तिकं मर्तुरागमत् ॥९७॥ ससर्प यः समुद्भिद्य भुवः प्राप्तः स तत्क्षणात् । समैक्षिष्ट मुनिं दूरान्महामेरुमिवोचतम् ॥९८॥ समिद्वया तपोदीच्या ज्वलद्भासुरविग्रहम् । निवात निश्चलं दीपमित्र योगे समाहितम् ॥ ९९ ॥ कर्माहुती हायानहुताशे' दग्धुमुद्यतम् । सुयज्वानमिया हेयदयापत्नीपरिग्रहम् ॥१००॥ महोदयमुग्राङ्गं सुवंशं मुनिकुञ्जरम् । रुद्धं तपोमहालानस्तम्भे सब तरज्जुभिः ॥ १०५ ॥ अकम्प्रस्थितिमुत्तुङ्गमहास स्वैरुपासितम् । महाद्रिमिव विभ्राणं क्षमाभरसहं वपुः ॥१०२॥ योगान्त निभृतात्मानमतिगम्भीर चेष्टितम् । 'नित्रात स्तिमितस्यान्धेर्व्यक्कुर्वाणं गभीरताम् ॥ १०३ ॥

समस्त समाचारोंको जानकर वह धरणेन्द्र बड़े ही संभ्रम के साथ उठा और शीघ्र ही भगवान्के समीप आया || ९७|| वह उसी समय पूजाकी सामग्री लिये हुए, पृथिवीको भेदन कर भगवान्के समीप पहुँचा । वहाँ उसने दूरसे ही मेरु पर्वत के समान ऊँचे मुनिराज वृषभदेवको देखा ||९८|| उस समय भगवान् ध्यानमें लवलीन थे और उनका देदीप्यमान शरीर अतिशय बढ़ी हुई तपकी दीप्ति प्रकाशमान हो रहा था इसलिए वे ऐसे मालूम होते थे मानो वायुरहित प्रदेशमें रखे हुए दीपक ही हों ||१९|| अथवा वे भगवान् किसी उत्तम यज्वा अर्थात् यज्ञ करनेवालेके समान शोभायमान हो रहे थे क्योंकि जिस प्रकार यज्ञ करनेवाला अग्नि में आहुतियाँ जलानेके लिए तत्पर रहता है उसी प्रकार भगवान् भी महाध्यानरूपी अग्निमें कर्मरूपी आहुतियाँ जलाने के लिए उद्यत थे। और जिस प्रकार यज्ञ करनेवाला अपनी पत्नी सहित होता है उसी प्रकार भगवान् भी कभी नहीं छोड़ने योग्य दयारूपी पत्नी से सहित थे || १००।। अथवा वे मुनिराज एक कुञ्जर अर्थात् हाधीके समान मालूम होते थे क्योंकि जिस प्रकार हाथी महोदय अर्थात् भाग्यशाली होता है उसी प्रकार भगवान् भी महोदय अर्थात् बड़े भारी ऐश्वर्य से सहित थे। हाथीका शरीर जिस प्रकार ऊँचा होता है उसी प्रकार भगवनका शरीर भी ऊँचा था, हाथी जिस प्रकार सुवंश अर्थात् पीठको उत्तम रीढ़से सहित होता है उसी प्रकार भगवान् भी सुवंश अर्थात् उत्तम कुलसे सहित थे और हाथी जिस प्रकार रस्सियों द्वारा खम्भे में बँधा रहता है उसी प्रकार भगवान् भी उत्तम व्रतरूपी रस्सियों द्वारा तपरूपी बड़े भारी खम्भे में बँधे हुए थे || ११ || वे भगवान् सुमेरु पर्वत के समान उत्तम शरीर धारण कर रहे थे क्योंकि जिस प्रकार सुमेरु पर्वत अकम्पायमान रूपसे खड़ा है उसी प्रकार उनका शरीर भी अकम्पायमान रूपसे ( निश्चल) खड़ा था, मेरु पर्वत जिस प्रकार ऊँचा होता है उसी प्रकार उनका शरीर भी ऊँचा था, सिंह, व्याघ्र आदि बड़े-बड़े क्रूर जीव जिस प्रकार सुमेरु पर्वतकी उपासना करते हैं अर्थात् वहाँ रहते हैं उसी प्रकार बड़े-बड़े क्रूर जीव शान्त होकर भगवान के शरीर की भी उपासना करते थे अर्थात् उनके समीपमें रहते थे, अथवा सुमेरु पर्वत जिस प्रकार इन्द्र आदि महासत्त्व अर्थात् महाप्राणियोंसे उपासित होता है उसी प्रकार भगवान्‌का शरीर भी इन्द्र आदि महासत्त्वोंसे उपासित था अथवा सुमेरु पर्वत जिस प्रकार महासत्त्व अर्थात् बड़ी भारी दृढ़तासे उपासित होता है उसी प्रकार भगवान् का शरीर भी महासत्त्व अर्थात् बड़ी भारी दृढ़ता ( धीर-वीरता) से उपासित था, और सुमेरु पर्वत जिस प्रकार क्षमा अर्थात् पृथिवीके भारको धारण करनेमें समर्थ होता है उसी प्रकार भगवानका शरीर भी क्षमा अर्थात् शान्तिके भारको धारण करने में समर्थ था || १०२ || उस समय भगवान् ने अपने अन्तःकरणको ध्यानके भीतर निश्चल कर लिया था तथा उनकी चेष्टाएँ अत्यन्त गम्भीर थीं इसलिए वे वायुके न चलनेसे निश्चल हुए समुद्र की गम्भीरताको

And just as a performer of yajna is accompanied by his wife, so too was the Lord accompanied by his inseparable wife, compassion. || 100 || Or, Muni Raja appeared like an elephant, for just as an elephant is fortunate, so too was the Lord fortunate, possessing great wealth. Just as an elephant has a tall body, so too did the Lord have a tall body. Just as an elephant has a strong spine, so too did the Lord belong to a noble lineage. And just as an elephant is tied to a post with ropes, so too was the Lord bound to the great post of tapasya with the ropes of great vows. || 105 || The Lord possessed a body like Mount Sumeru, for just as Mount Sumeru stands firm and unshakable, so too was his body unshakable. Just as Mount Sumeru is tall, so too was his body tall. Just as ferocious creatures like lions and tigers dwell in Mount Sumeru, so too did ferocious creatures remain peaceful and worship the Lord's body, dwelling near him. Or, just as Mount Sumeru is worshipped by great beings like Indra, so too was the Lord's body worshipped by great beings like Indra. Or, just as Mount Sumeru is worshipped with great strength and firmness, so too was the Lord's body worshipped with great strength and firmness. And just as Mount Sumeru is capable of bearing the weight of the earth, so too was the Lord's body capable of bearing the weight of peace. || 102 || At that time, the Lord had made his mind still within meditation, and his actions were extremely profound. Therefore, he appeared like the profound stillness of the ocean, when the wind does not blow. || 103 ||
