________________ Verse 141 संवर पदार्थ The Stoppage (samvara) पाप के संवर का यह कथन है - Stoppage (samvara) is shutting the door of demerit (papa) - इंदियकसायसण्णा णिग्गहिदा जेहिं सुठुमग्गम्मि / जावत्तावत्तेहिं पिहियं पावासवच्छिदं // 141 // इन्द्रियकषायसंज्ञा निगृहीता यैः सुष्ठु मार्गे / यावत्तावत्तेषां पिहितं पापास्रवच्छिद्रम् // 141 // अन्वयार्थ - [यैः] जो [सुष्ठु मार्गे ] सम्यग् मार्ग में (संवर-मार्ग में) रहकर [इन्द्रियकषायसंज्ञाः ] इन्द्रियों, कषाय और संज्ञाओं का [यावत् निगृहीताः] जितना (जिस समय) निग्रह करते हैं, [ तावत् ] उतना (उस समय) [पापास्त्रवच्छिद्रम् ) पापास्त्रव का छिद्र [ तेषाम् ] उनके [पिहितम् ] बन्द (आच्छादित) होता है। Having established themselves on the right path, to the extent men check the senses (indriya), the passions (hasaya) and the instincts (samjna), their doorway for entry of the influx-of-demerit (papasrava) remains shut. EXPLANATORY NOTE Obstruction of the inflow of karmic matter is stoppage (samvara). Stoppage (samvara) leads to the path to liberation. To the extent - both in terms of quantum and time-the senses (indriya), the passions (kasaya) and the instincts (samjna) are checked, the doorway for entry of the influx-of-demerit (papasrava) remains shut. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 259
