प्रारम्भ होगया तथा प्रजाजन की सुख और शान्ति में वृद्धि ही वृद्धि होने लगी. इस लिये माता पिता ने उनका नाम 'वर्द्धमान' रखा' । यह ही उनका जन्म नाम है ।
वीर की वीरता To-day we wonder why the Devas do not come down on the earth. But whom should they come down to day? Who is superior to them in knowledge, power or greatness on the earth ? Should they come down to smell the stench of the slaughter houses, the meatshops, Stinking Kitchens and recking restourants ? यह तीर्थकर भगवान् का ही पुण्यकम है कि इस लोक में क्या परलोक तक में 'वर्द्धमान' के जन्म की धूम मच गई। अपने अवधिज्ञान से तीर्थकर भगवान् का जन्म जान कर देवी देवताओं ने भी स्वर्ग लोक में उनका जन्मोत्सव बड़े उत्साह से मनाया। भुवनवासी देवों की आनन्द भेरी, व्यन्तर देवों के मृदङ्ग, ज्योतिषी देवों के शङ्ख और कल्पवासी देवों के घण्टे बजने लगे। आकाश जय-जय कार के शब्दों से गूंज उठा। सुधर्म इन्द्र तो देवी-देवताओं सहित कुमार वर्द्धमान के दर्शनों के लिए १.
