ઉપદેશસરિતા
ધમને પણ આવે છે દુઃખ પ્રામ્બદ્ધ કર્મથી; અધમ પણ પામે છે સુખ પ્રામ્બદ્ધ કર્મથી. માટે થવું ન સદિગ્ધ ધર્મના મહિમા વિષે; ધર્મથી સુખ ને પાપે દુઃખ એ ધ્રુવ સત્ય છે.

Even a righteous person happens to be miserable, and even an unrighteous person becomes happy by means of his previous Karma. So one should not be doubtful about the greatness of Dharma. It is the eternal truth that Dharma (morality) is the way to happiness and Adharma (immorality), to misery. 186–187
