( ૮ ) સંખ્યાવાળા ગ્રન્થ વિરછેદ થઈ ગયા, શું આ વાત કઈ પણ બુદ્ધિમાન માન્ય કરી શકે ખરો? કદાપિ નહિ. તે તે કદાગ્રહીજ માન્ય કરે. હું ન ભૂલત હેઉ તે આવા ઉસૂત્રથી ભરપૂર ગ્રન્થને પ્રચાર કરવાને માટેજ પાછલા અંગ પ્રકીર્ણાદિ ગ્રન્થ છોડી દીધેલા જણાય છે.
પાશ્ચાત્ય વિદ્વાને શું કહે છે? હવે દિગમ્બરના ગ્રન્થ કરતાં શ્વેતામ્બરના ગ્રન્થ પ્રાચીન છે, આ વાતને અમે (શ્વેતામ્બરે) જ કહીએ છીએ-સિદ્ધ કરીએ છીએ, એટલું જ નહિ, પરંતુ પાશ્ચાત્ય વિદ્વાને એ પણ તે વાતને, ચક્કસ શેખેળ કરી, દઢ કરી છે. આ પ્રમાણે કહીને છુટી ન જતાં એક બે નમૂના પણ અહિં રજુ કરું છું–
