From these two lists we can see at a glance, the first four Vows of each sect entirely agree with one another, though not in the same order. The fifth vow of the Jains though not dissimilar to the fifth one of the Buddhists, is far more comprehensive.
The close similarity of the two sets of of vows may lead one to think, that one sect has borrowed from the other, but the fact is quite different. Neither the Jains nor the Buddhists can claim originality in this matter as will be seen from the following five main vows of the Brahman Samnyasis. Abstention from injuring living
