टिक सोसायटी के पुस्तकालय में जाकर 'गोरा बादल की कथा' की प्रति तलाश की; परन्तु उन्हें उसका कुछ पता न लगा । घे दोनों सज्जन मेरे पास आये और अपनी इस असफलता को बात सुनाई। उन्होंने कहा कि रायबहादुर श्यामसुन्दरदास जी की 'ऐनुयल रिपोर्ट आनू दि सर्च फार हिन्दी मैनुसक्रिप्ट फार दि इयर १६०१' के पृष्ठ ४५ में नं० ४८ पर 'गोरा बादल की कथा' की प्रति का संग्रहा लय (प्लेस आफ डिपोजिट ) 'पशायटिक सोसायटी आफ् बंगाल, कलकत्ता' लिखा है। खैर, दूसरे दिन दोनों सज्जनों को साथ लेकर मैं सोसायटी में पहुंचा और प्रति को ढूंढ़कर निकलवाया।
श्री श्यामसुन्दरदास जी ने रिपोर्ट में प्रति का इस प्रकार वर्णन किया है, और मेरी समझ में इस ग्रन्थ पर साहित्यिकों का भ्रम यहां से ही फैला -
"Annual Report on the search for Hindi Manuscripts for the year 1901 by Syam Sunder Das, B.A., Allahabad, 1904. p. 45. No. 48. गोरा बादल को कथाProse & Verse. Substance-country-made Paper . Leaves—43. Gora Badala Ki Katha-The story of Ratnasena & Padmavati & connected with it that of Gora & Badala, who animated by the noble sentiments of patriotism and honour sacrificed themselves for the cause of their chief, their queen & their country. This story was written by Jatamala in Samvat 1630 (1623 A D.)"
