PODANAPURA AND
BY
KAMTA PRASAD JAIN, M.R.A.S.
Takşašilā was a Aourishing city of ancient India and it has been identified with the ruins near Shahdheri in the Rawalpindi district of the Punjab province. Likewise Podanapura was an important town of India with a very remote antiquity ; but so far it has not been pointed out with a certainty that where it had its location. The learned editor of the Bhavisayatta Kaha" in his introduction, however, endeaioured to locate Podanapura in the Punjab province, rather he identified it with Takşasila." But taking into consideration the available information about Podanapura his view is hardly tenable. In the following lines I shall collect and give the available information about Podanapura, endeavouring to point its most probable locality.
