१८ भगवान महावीर और उनका समय
Mahavira proclaimed in India the message of Salvation that religion is a reality and not a mere social convention, that salvation comes from taking refuge in that true religion, and not from observing the external ceremonies of tbe community, that religion can not regard any, barrier between man and wan as an eternal verity.
Wondrous to relate, this teaching rapidly ove:topped the barriers of the races' abiding instinct and conquered the whole country. For a long period now the influence of Kshatriya teachers completely suppressed the Brahmin power.
अर्थात्-महावीरने डंकेको चोट भारतमें मुक्तिका ऐसा संदेश घोषित किया कि-धर्म यह कोई महज सामाजिक रूढि नहीं बल्कि वास्तविक सत्य है-वस्तु स्वभाव है, और मुक्ति उस धर्म में आश्रय लेनेसे ही मिल सकती है, न कि समाजके बाह्य श्राचारोंका-विधिविधानों अथवा क्रियाकांडोंका-पालन करनेसे, और यह कि धर्मको दृष्टिमें मनुष्य मनुष्यके बीच कोई भेद स्थायी नहीं रह सकता । कहते आश्चर्य होता है कि इस शिक्षणने बद्धमूल हुई जातिको हद बन्दियोंको शीघ्र ही तोड़ डाला और संपर्ण देश पर विजय प्राप्त किया । इस वक्त क्षत्रिय गरुओंके प्रभावने बहुत समयके लिये ब्राह्मणोंकी सत्ताको पूरी तौरसे दवा दिया था ।
इसी तरह लोकमान्य तिलक श्रादि देशके दूसरे भी कितनेही प्रसिद्ध हिन्दू विद्वानोंने, अहिंसादिकके विषयमें, महावीर भगवान् अथवा उनके धर्मकी ब्राह्मण धर्म पर गहरी छापका होना स्वीकार किया है, जिनके वाक्योंको यहाँ पर उद्धत करनेकी जरूरत नहीं Shree Sudharmaswami Gyanbhandar-Umara, Surat www.umaragyanbhandar.com
