आगम सूत्र ३९, छेदसूत्र-५, 'महानिशीथ'
अध्ययन/उद्देश/सूत्रांक विधान से पंचमंगल आदि श्रुतज्ञान का विनयोपधान करते हैं, वे हे गौतम ! उस सूत्र की हीलना नहीं करते । अर्थ की हीलना-आशातना नहीं करते, सूत्र-अर्थ, उभय की आशातना नहीं करते, तीन काल में होनेवाले तीर्थंकर की आशातना नहीं करता, तीन लोक की चोटी पर वास करनेवाले कर्मरज समान मैल को जिन्होंने दूर किया है। ऐसे सिद्ध की जो आशातना नहीं करते, आचार्य, उपाध्याय और साधु की आशातना नहीं करते । अति प्रियधर्मवाले दृढ़ धर्मवाले और एकान्त भक्तियुक्त होते हैं । सूत्र अर्थ में अति रंजित मानसवाला वो श्रद्धा और संवेग को पानेवाला होता है इस तरह का पुण्यशाली आत्मा यह भव रूपी कैदखाने में बारबार गर्भवास आदि नियंत्रण का दुःख भुगतनेवाला नहीं होता। सूत्र-६०१
लेकिन हे गौतम ! जिसने अभी पाप-पुण्य का अर्थ न जाना हो, ऐसा बच्चा उस 'पंच मंगल'' के लिए एकान्ते अनुचित है । उसे पंचमंगल महाश्रुतस्कन्ध का एक भी आलावा मत देना । क्योंकि अनादि भवान्तर में उपार्जन किए कर्मराशी को बच्चे के लिए यह आलापक प्राप्त करके बच्चा सम्यक् तरह से आराधन न करे तो उनकी लघुता हो । उस बच्चे को पहले धर्मकथा से भक्ति करनी चाहिए । उसके बाद प्रियधर्म दृढ़धर्म और भक्तियुक्त बन गया है ऐसा जानने के बाद जितने पच्चक्खाण निर्वाह करने के लिए समर्थ हो उतने पच्चक्खाण उसको करवाना । रात्रि भोजन के विध, त्रिविध, चऊविह-ऐसे यथाशक्ति पच्चकखाण करवाना।। सूत्र-६०२
हे गौतम ! ४५ नवकारशी करने से, २४ पोरिसी करने से, १२ पुरिमुडू करने से, १० अवडू करने से और चार एकासणा करने से (एक उपवास गिनती में ले सकते हैं ।) दो आयंबिल और एक शुद्ध, निर्मल, निर्दोष आयंबिल करने से भी एक उपवास गिना जाता है ।) हे गौतम ! व्यापार रहितता से रौद्रध्यान-आर्तध्यान, विकथा रहित स्वाध्याय करने में एकाग्र चित्तवाला हो तो केवल एक आयंबिल करे तो भी मासक्षमण से आगे नीकल जाता है। इसलिए विसामा सहित जितने प्रमाण में तप-उपधान करे उतने प्रमाण में उसी गिनती में बढ़ौती करके पंचमंगल पढ़ने के लायक बने, तब उसे पंच-मंगल का आलावा पढ़वाना, वरना मत पढ़ाना। सूत्र - ६०३
हे भगवंत ! इस प्रकार करने से, दीर्घकाल बीत जाए और यदि शायद बीच में ही मर जाए तो नवकार रहित वो अंतिम आराधना किस तरह साध सके? हे गौतम ! जिस वक्त सूत्रोपचार के निमित्त से अशठभाव से यथाशक्ति जो कोई तप की शुरूआत की उसी वक्त उसने उस सूत्र का, अर्थ का और तदुभय का अध्ययन पठन शुरू किया ऐसा समझना । क्योंकि वो आराधक आत्मा उस पंच नमस्कार के सूत्र, अर्थ और तदुभय को अविधि से ग्रहण नहीं करता । लेकिन वो उस तरह विधि से तपस्या करके ग्रहण करता है कि - जिससे भवान्तर में भी नष्ट न हो ऐसे शुभ-अध्यवसाय से वो आराधक होता है। सूत्र-६०४
हे गौतम ! किसी दूसरे के पास पढ़ते हो और श्रुतज्ञानावरणीय के क्षयोपशम से कान से सूनकर दिया गया सूत्र ग्रहण करके पंचमंगल सूत्र पढ़कर किसी ने तैयार किया हो - क्या उसे भी तप उपधान करना चाहिए?
हे गौतम ! हा, उसको भी तप कराके देना चाहिए।
हे भगवंत ! किस कारण से तप करना चाहिए ? हे गौतम ! सुलभ बोधि के लाभ के लिए । इस प्रकार तप-विधान न करनेवाले को ज्ञान-कुशील समझना । सूत्र - ६०५
हे भगवंत ! जिस किसी को अति महान ज्ञानावरणीय कर्म का उदय हुआ हो, रात-दिन रटने के बाद भी एक साल के बाद केवल अर्धश्लोक ही स्थिर परीचित हो, वो क्या करे ? वैसे आत्मा को जावज्जीव तक अभिग्रह

If one is single-minded in performing Roudradhyan-Artadhyan, Vikatha-free Swadhyaya, without any business, then even if he performs only one Ayambil, he surpasses the Masakshaman. Therefore, make him eligible to read Panchamangal by increasing the number of Tapas-Upadhan in the same proportion as the number of Visama he performs, then make him read Panchamangal, otherwise do not make him read it.
