__ तब तक आयु थोड़ा सा भी भुगतना बाकी है, जब तक अभी अल्प भी व्यवसाय कर सकते हो, तब तक में आत्महित की साधना कर लो । वरना पीछे से पश्चात्ताप करने का अवसर प्राप्त होगा । इन्द्रधनुष, बिजली देखते ही पल में अदृश्य हो वैसे संध्या के व्याधि और सपने समान यह देह है जो कच्चे मिट्टी के घड़े में भरे जल की तरह पलभर में पीगल जाता है । इतना समझकर ये जब तक इस तरह के क्षणभंगुर देह से छूटकारा न मिले तब तक उग्र कष्टकारी घोर तप का सेवन करो, आयु का क्रम कब तूटेगा उसका भरोसा नहीं है । हे गौतम ! हजार साल तक अति विपुल प्रमाण में संयम का सेवन करनेवाले को भी अन्तिम वक्त पर कण्डरिक की तरह क्लिष्टभाव शुद्ध नहीं होता । कुछ महात्मा जिस प्रकार शील और श्रामण्य ग्रहण किया हो उस प्रकार पुण्डरिक महर्षि की तरह अल्पकाल में अपने कार्य को साधते हैं। सूत्र-१३५५-१३५६
जन्म, जरा और मरण के दुःख से घिरे इस जीव को संसार में सुख नहीं है, इसलिए मोक्ष ही एकान्त उपदेश-ग्रहण करने के लायक है । हे गौतम ! सर्व तरह से और सर्व भाव से मोक्ष पाने के लिए मिला हुआ मानव भव सार्थक करना।

Even those who practice restraint for a thousand years in great abundance, their defilements do not become pure like a lotus at the end. This being, surrounded by the suffering of birth, old age, and death, has no happiness in the world, therefore liberation is the only worthy object of instruction. O Gautama! To attain liberation in all ways and in all respects, this human birth received is meaningful.
