आत्मानुशासन
leaving sensual enjoyment, in laudable conduct that brings propitiousness in this world and the next. Why should you not take a mental-resolve to adopt such laudable conduct? (You should imagine that happiness resides only in laudable conduct.)
भीतमूर्तीर्गतत्राणा निर्दोषा देहवित्तकाः । दन्तलग्नतृणा जन्ति मृगीरन्येषु का कथा ॥२९॥
अर्थ - जिन हिरणियों का शरीर सदा भय से काँपता रहता है, जिनका वन में कोई रक्षक नहीं है, जो किसी का अपराध (अनिष्ट) नहीं करती हैं, जिनके एकमात्र अपने शरीर को छोड़कर दूसरा कोई धन नहीं है, तथा जो दाँतों के बीच में अटके हुए तृणों को धारण करती हैं; ऐसी हिरणियों का भी घात करने से जब शिकारी-जन नहीं चूकते हैं तब भला दूसरे (सापराध) प्राणियों के विषय में क्या कहा जा सकता है? अर्थात् उनका घात तो वे करेंगे ही।
When the hunters do not hesitate to kill even the doe (she-deer) whose body trembles with fear, who is unprotected, innocent, has the body as her sole possession, and with blades of grass between her teeth, what to say of other (guilty, cruel) animals?
