Verses 27, 28
There is no demerit (pāpa) in mere sensual enjoyment, but there is demerit in initiation (ārambha) of activities resulting in injury (himsā), etc., thereby destroying dharma that promotes non-injury (ahimsā). See, indigestion is not caused by sweet-food but by its excessive consumption.
अप्येतन्मृगयादिकं यदि तव प्रत्यक्षदुःखास्पदं पापैराचरितं पुरातिभयदं सौख्याय संकल्पतः । संकल्पं तमनुज्झितेन्द्रियसुखैरासेविते धीधनैः धर्म्य कर्मणि किं करोति न भवाँल्लोकद्वयश्रेयसि ॥२८॥
अर्थ - हे भव्य जीव! जो शिकार आदि व्यसन प्रत्यक्ष में ही दु:ख के स्थानभूत हैं, जिनमें पापी जीव ही प्रवृत्त होते हैं, तथा जो परभव में दु:खदायक होने से अतिशय भयानक हैं; वे भी यदि संकल्प-मात्र से तेरे सुख के लिये हो सकते हैं तो फिर विवेकी जन इन्द्रियसुख को न छोड़कर जिस धर्मयुक्त आचरण को करते हैं तथा जो दोनों ही लोकों में कल्याणकारक है उस धर्ममय आचरण में तू उक्त संकल्प को क्यों नहीं करता है? अर्थात् उसमें ही तुझे सुख की कल्पना करनी चाहिये।
O worthy soul! Evil-passions (vyasana), like hunting, are evidently abodes of misery; only the sinners indulge in these, and, being the cause of misery in future lives, these are excessively frightful.
