Atmānusāsana
आत्मानुशासन
naturally-fearful she-deer; glory to such revered sages. With their unparalleled ways of conduct, they spend, resolutely, their days and long years.
येषां बुद्धिरलक्ष्यमाणभिदयोराशात्मनोरन्तरं गत्वोच्चैरविधाय भेदमनयोरारान्न विश्राम्यति । यैरन्तर्विनिवेशिताः शमधनैर्बाद बहिर्व्याप्तयः तेषां नोऽत्र पवित्रयन्तु परमाः पादोत्थिताः पांसवः ॥२६१॥
अर्थ - अज्ञानी जीवों को आशा और आत्मा इन दोनों के बीच भेद नहीं दिखता है। परन्तु जिन महर्षियों की बुद्धि इन दोनों के मध्य में जाकर उनका भेद करने के बिना बीच में विश्राम को नहीं प्राप्त होती है - भेद को प्रगट करके ही विश्राम लेती है - तथा शान्तिरूप अपूर्व धन को धारण करने वाले जिन महर्षियों ने बाह्य विकल्पों को आत्मस्वरूप में स्थापित कर दिया है, उनके चरणों से उत्पन्न हुई उत्कृष्ट धूलि यहाँ हमें पवित्र करे।
The ignorant men are not able to discriminate between the desire (mental inclination) and the soul. However, the supreme ascetics whose intellect does not rest till it is able to discern between these two, and, possessed of the wealth of tranquility, vanquish all external volitions by being established in their soul-nature. May the sacred dust raised by their feet purify us!
