________________ Ātmānuśāsana आत्मानुशासन शिरःस्थं भारमुत्तार्य स्कन्धे कृत्वा सुयत्नतः । शरीरस्थेन भारेण अज्ञानी मन्यते सुखम् ॥२०६॥ अर्थ – सिर के ऊपर स्थित भार को उतारकर और उसे प्रयत्नपूर्वक कन्धे के ऊपर करके अज्ञानी प्राणी उस शरीरस्थ भार से सुख की कल्पना करता है। The ignorant man imagines a sense of relief from the load he is carrying on his head by removing it from the head and, with great difficulty, shifting it on to his shoulder. (He is still carrying the load!) यावदस्ति प्रतीकारस्तावत्कुर्यात्प्रतिक्रियाम् । तथाप्यनुपशान्तानामनुद्वेगः प्रतिक्रिया ॥२०७॥ अर्थ - जब तक रोगों का प्रतीकार हो सकता है तब तक उसे करना चाहिये। परन्तु फिर भी यदि वे नष्ट नहीं होते हैं तो इससे खेद को प्राप्त नहीं होना चाहिये। यही वास्तव में उन रोगों का प्रतीकार है। So long as the diseases can be cured, efforts should be made. Still, if these remain incurable, there is no point grieving. This, truly, is the way to combat such diseases. EXPLANATORY NOTE The way to make human birth meaningful is through renunciation of worldly pleasures, and taking recourse to meditation, austerities, propagation of true faith, and finally attaining a pious and passionless death by relinquishing the body through the method of sallekhanā – ........................ 170
