Ātmānuśāsana
आत्मानुशासन
the fruit. Equanimity is freedom from attachment and aversion. Also, on the destruction of darkness, that is ignorance, the self attains the power of discrimination between what needs to be accepted and rejected.1
शास्त्राग्नौ मणिवद्धव्यो विशुद्धो भाति निर्वृतः । अङ्गारवत् खलो दीप्तो मली वा भस्म वा भवेत् ॥१७६॥
अर्थ
शास्त्ररूप अग्नि में प्रविष्ट हुआ भव्य जीव तो मणि के समान
विशुद्ध होकर मुक्ति को प्राप्त करता हुआ शोभायमान होता है किन्तु दुष्ट जीव (अभव्य) उस शास्त्ररूप अग्नि में दीप्त होकर (जलता हुआ) अंगार के समान मलिन व भस्मस्वरूप हो जाता है।
As the jewel gets purified and resplendent on entering the fire, the potential (bhavya) soul, on entering the fire of the Scripture, gets purified and attains resplendent liberation. The wicked [non-potential (abhavya)] soul, however, on entering the fire of the Scripture, gets scorched, turns dark like coal, and is reduced to ashes.

मुहुः प्रसार्य संज्ञानं पश्यन् भावान् यथास्थितान् । प्रीत्यप्रीती निराकृत्य ध्यायेदध्यात्मविन्मुनिः ॥ १७७॥
